Tham Ting (Lower Cave)

Tham Ting is the main, naturally lit cavern at the Pak Ou site. It sits directly in the limestone cliff face just above the Mekong River.

Most visitors start their exploration at Tham Ting, the lower cave. The space is naturally illuminated by sunlight reflecting off the river. Inside, thousands of wooden and stone Buddha figures line the walls and ledges.

Devotees have left these statues here over the last 300 years. Remember to follow local customs by keeping your shoulders and knees covered. Maintain a quiet demeanor, as this remains an active place of worship.

Cliffside Entrance Shrine

15 minShoot from inside out

The open mouth of the cave faces the river and houses thousands of small Buddha statues. The natural light creates sharp silhouettes against the water. This is the primary location for photography. Shoot from the inside looking out to capture the statues framing the Mekong River backdrop.

Main Altar Area

10 minRemove shoes on platforms

This is the central gathering point inside the cave. Pilgrims stop here to leave incense, flowers, and candles. You will often see locals actively praying in this section. Follow local signage and do not step on the raised wooden platforms with your shoes on.
